Aliceville officer-involved shooting suspect had wife’s corpse in car at time of arrest

ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — New information has been released in the Aliceville officer-involved shooting last Friday.

Authorities found a stolen vehicle and discovered a suspect in it sleeping. The suspect then became startled and tried to flee, according to police.

Fred Sommerville, 47, was taken into custody after an officer discharged their weapon to stop Sommerville who was driving the stolen car.

After his arrest, the body of a female was found in the vehicle with Sommerville. The body was later identified as his wife, Lakresha L Sommerville, who had been reported missing July 18.

Sommerville is charged with attempt to elude, theft of property, abuse of a corpse and reckless endangerment.

Sommerville is currently in custody on a $1 million bond.

No other information has been released at this time.
