Firefighters injured while battling a massive house fire

BRIGHTON, Ala. (WIAT) – We are following breaking news of a massive house fire in Brighton. It happened Friday afternoon, around noon on Ontario Street.

Fire Crews arrived on the scene to a home fully engulfed in flames.

According to Officials, no one is living in the home. The owner of the home is currently in the hospital receiving treatment.

We are told his family checks on the house from time to time and picks up the owners mail.

According to Brighton Mayor Eddie Cooper there were two firefighters injured during this fire. One was a Brighton firefighter and one was a Lipscomb firefighter. They were both taken to UAB hospital and both have since been released. The injuries were sustained from them stepping on debris from the house while fighting the fire.

Authorities say the house is a total loss. Some people on the scene, say they heard explosions as crews were battling the flames. No word on any injuries or what caused the fire.
