BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s a race to save the green and to win this race, four teams are paying down debt and building up their bank accounts. This week, we look at how Team Davis is pinching pennies in the last few months.
Kathryn Davis is whittling down her debt. “A year ago it was paycheck to paycheck and probably worse than that because it would be five days until I was paid. I would just be like, ‘Okay, I’ll just have to make do,’ or I would go to the cards,” said Kathryn.
She’s taking creative measures to supplement her income. Since she’s internet savvy, Kathryn is turning to direct sales to help pay off debt. “I don’t pray for pay day, I’m prepared and there’s money set aside,” she said.
Kathryn’s coach, Emmett Colston, says, “She goes above and beyond when it comes to our plans for her, and she’s very active on the social networks.”
Colston says that Davis is now making strides in paying off her credit cards. “She took it, and said, ‘I’m on course to do something, and I’m going to take this money and do something.’ That’s what I call an all-star,” said Colston.
Davis says that her ideas sparked from the Financial Peace University offered through eCO online. “I learned so much during that; it encouraged me. I would say, first, try and learn about that. Even if it’s not taking the entire course, looking online at some of the resources and just learning about different strategies to cut your debt,” she said.
She’s now making strides toward the savings finish line.
