BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — It’s a race to save the green. Four teams are cutting back on finances to score more money in the bank.

There’s just a few more months left to reach their short term budgeting goals. This week, Alex and Roni show us how to plan for those extra costs that may be unexpected.

“What time of year is it? Are our sons going to want to do any of this? Are there going to be any fees? Is there any checkup coming from the doctor?” The Deals are asking themselves these questions.

“Once you’ve budgeted every dollar, anything that comes up puts you in a bind and you have to redo the whole budget,” said Alex.

The Deals’ financial coach says this is not uncommon. He says, “You may have ups and downs. They’ve run into things like emergencies with appliances or whatever. They’ve had to deal with them. It might be a minor set-back, but it’s something you deal with, something you plan for and continue on.”

As Team Deal continues on their path of financial success, they offer these suggestions. The Deals’ financial coach says, “Those type things are good to be in the back of your head.  It’s good to put it down on paper to have, and see that these are the goals that we might actually need to do some work for and not just wait until closer to time.”

Alex says, “Stuff that’s not every month, anticipate that, and get that in the budget.”

It’s just one more step they’re making in securing a frugal future.
