One Team at a Time: Top Gun baseball

One Team at a Time

ANNISTON, Ala. (WIAT) — Baseball is a lifelong love for a lot of Americans. Randy Wright of the Anniston Top Gun 12-under baseball team strives to prepare his players for a future beyond their time with his team.

“The biggest thing is we’re trying to prepare these boys for high school ball, because we know it’s on another level,” said Wright.

Many of his players will be opponents one day. “We’re from all over Calhoun County,” explained Wright. “Jacksonville, Alexandria, Oxford, [and] Anniston kids. So it’s a well-spread group from a lot of different school systems.”

Baseball is an expensive sport. Teams go through bats and balls quickly, among other equipment.

“We go through so much money trying to keep these kids ready to play,” said Wright. “When you want to do extra things it’s tough on the parents.”

With that in mind, Hibbett Sports and CBS42 are proud to announce the Anniston Top Gun 12-U team as this week’s One Team at a Time. The distinction comes with $1,000 worth of equipment from Hibbett Sports.

As Wright looked over all the new gear he commented, “The need is there for every bit of this stuff.”
