VINCENT, Ala. (WIAT) — The Vincent High School football team breaks in a new coach this season. The Yellow Jackets have put last year’s 0-10 season behind them and are focused solely on what they have to do to get better and become winners.
“Hopefully we have a great season ahead but I’m just going to give it all I got, lay it all on the table,” senior Josef Green said.
And as new coach Wiley McKeller tells us, if you invest your time and resources in the offseason the payout comes under the Friday night lights
“Every coach you talk to in an interview was going to say football games are won between November and August,” McKeller said. “They’re not won on Friday night. So every day we come in there we are putting a little bit of money in the bank. We’re putting a little something in the bank. So when Friday night rolls around we can withdraw enough to come out with a victory.”
Hibbett Sports and CBS42 are helping the Yellow Jackets investment go a little further by awarding them with $1,000 worth of new equipment.
“There’s not a lot of bread in the cupboard,” McKeller said. “Gates were down last year; it was a bad citizen and all that, but at the same time when you got people like WIAT and Hibbett, that invest in kids and invest in the community, that means a lot for the program and that is a big motivating factor for us.”
