One Team at a Time: Childersburg High School soccer

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. (WIAT) — While soccer is the world’s most popular game, it’s just gaining a foothold in the state of Alabama. Many programs have been around for decades, but some are in their infancy.

Four years ago Childersburg High School kicked around the idea of starting their own program. “They said they wanted me to start the soccer program and so we started it from scratch that year,” said head soccer coach Michael Duff.

Starting a program from the ground up is never an easy task. Duff said there were many fundraisers in the formative years of his program.

“It’s tough to get the equipment that we need to let these kids take it to the next level,” he said.

To help out, CBS42 and Hibbett Sports are proud to present the Childersburg soccer program with $1,000 worth of free equipment, ranging from balls and nets to practice jerseys.

“We do a lot of scrimmage type stuff, now we can differentiate the teams,” said Duff.
