Processed meat linked to higher breast cancer risk

U.S. (WIAT) — New research in the International Journal of Cancer finds eating processed meats is associated with a nearly 10 percent higher breast cancer risk.

Processed meats like bacon, ham and sausage are altered to improve flavor and preservation. In 2015, the World Health Organization classified it as a carcinogen because studies show it can increase risk for certain cancers.

Breast cancer survivor, Angela Thomas, says she made major lifestyle changes after her diagnosis two years ago.
