Laura Laughead (“Law-Head”) may be a Texas girl, but she’s looking forward to getting to know the Magic City! She is the new weekend evening anchor and reporter for CBS 42.
Before CBS 42, she was the morning anchor and former weekend anchor/reporter for KAMC News, the ABC station in Lubbock in West Texas.
While there, she covered a number of stories where she did everything from flying a glider to running with wild hogs and even surviving a dust storm.
She graduated as Valedictorian of the University of Texas Journalism school in May 2020 where she worked as an entertainment reporter on the red carpet for Texas Student TV’s entertainment show and as the creator/producer of an original sitcom.
She also wrote for The Daily Texan and Spark Magazine. She refined her journalism skills with internships at ABC 13 in Houston, CBS Austin, Austin PBS and Good Morning America in New York City.
Some of Laura’s favorite career moments include working as an Instagram reporter for Good Morning America, and getting to co-anchor a newscast with her mom, a former reporter. Some of her favorite interviews include Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy Buffet at SXSW and B.J. Novak on filming ‘Vengeance’ set in West Texas. She also had the privilege of winning four student awards at the Lone Star Emmys, ‘Best Student Film’ at the 2020 Austin Revolution Film Festival and being selected as one of the top eight outstanding 2020 UT graduates.
When she’s off the clock, Laura loves binge watching TV shows, writing short stories/ screenplays, and eating her weight in Mexican and Indian food. She’s excited to explore Birmingham with her chiweenie Mr. Wiggles!
