Dave joined the CBS 42 Storm Team in January of 2021 as the morning and noon meteorologist. “I’m very passionate about weather, and there will be plenty for me to cover here,” Nussbaum said. “I hope the viewers can trust me and my forecast like they did in New Orleans. Birmingham is a wonderful city and a great place to raise my son. I can’t wait to move my family here.”
Dave’s interest in television sparked at an early age. He is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and happy to now be living in the “Pittsburgh of the South.”
“I have wanted a career in television since the fourth grade. I went from being very afraid of storms to chasing them!” added Nussbaum. Dave was motivated with a deep passion for weather, and took advantage of an on-camera experience received through a position as his high school’s first weatherman.
Dave’s interest in weather didn’t stop in my high school newsroom. After he earned a Meteorology degree from California University of Pennsylvania, he went on to Mississippi State University where he earned a Masters degree in Broadcast Meteorology.
En route to CBS 42, Dave interned at WPXI-TV in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was not long before he became the morning meteorologist at WSEE-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania. Then made the transition to South Louisiana and became the morning and noon meteorologist at WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge for 10 years. There, he won Best Weathercast by the Louisiana Associated Press in 2008. In 2014, Dave a made the trek down Interstate 10 to New Orleans where he was the morning meteorologist at WWL-TV for nearly 7 years. He was awarded Best Weathercast again in 2015. Needless to say, Dave weathered some of South Louisiana’s worst hurricanes from Katrina to Gustav and the crazy 2020 hurricane season.
Dave have earned the prestigious “Seal of Approval” from the American Meteorological Society. He is a member of the National Weather Association, American Meteorological Society, and an Eagle Scout. Dave is very active on Social Media. Be sure to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all of your Birmingham area weather needs.
