Every woman has a choice, wear those killer high heels and pay the painful price -- or go flat. Most women choose the heels and the pain. But with a little bit of science, high heel pain may soon be a thing of the past.
If diamonds are a girl's best friend -- high heels are a close second. "They're sexy. They're definitely sexy. And the higher, the better," shoe lover, Jill Meyers said.
Meyers has more than forty pairs of high heels. "I'm always in high heels. I wear high heels every day for work," said Meyers.
But last year, those four-inch pumps caused so much pain, she did the unthinkable ... she switched to flats! Podiatrist Cynthia Marzouka-Losito, DPM, says it's a change most women don't want to make.
"You cannot tell a woman that's been wearing her sexy heels for 20 years not to wear the sexy heels anymore," Dr. Marzouka-Losito said.
With age and time, the fat pad on the ball of the foot wears away and the bony joint has no support. High heels hurt because they put pressure on that spot.
"The sexier the shoes, the higher the shoe, the more painful our feet get," Dr. Marzouka-Losito said. But she has a fix. She's injecting a synthetic polylactic acid called Sculptra directly into the feet.
"It's actually replacing the fat pad. It's replacing what nature has taken away. It kind of creates a little pillow effect -- pillows for your feet," Dr. Marzouka-Losito said.
Meyers got it done -- for the second time -- today. "It's amazing. It's a total transition of my foot and when I put my heel on, I can walk all day long," said Meyers.
Sculptra is completely harmless and that pillow-effect lasts up to a year. Meyers is now back on her feet pain-free and she's also back in one of her favorite spots -- the shoe store.
