Sunshine was abundant again for this Thursday with only a few clouds around the area. Even a few isolated Showers popped up this evening. Those will wrap up into the evening though. Temps again reached the upper 80s and low 90s with no rain anywhere close by. This dry weather should continue right into the weekend, but we will bring back the chance of afternoon T-shower through Sunday. About 95% of us will stay dry though. The rain forecast is to cover the pesky pop up summertime showers.
Now, to the tropics. Gustav...We'll have to again today, do the wait and see game. The latest models show that Gustav will move into the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week. Gustav is still a tropical storm as of 4 PM, but that will change as he gets over the open waters south of Cuba. The current forecast hsa Gustav at a Category 3 hurricane by landfall in SE Louisianna. Now there are a couple of different factors that are involved with movement of this storm. One is a high pressure moving out of the plains into the eastern U.S. The other is a ridge of high pressure over Florida at this point. So, as usual, we're still leaving out certainty of landfall and date until we see the storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
For those of you headed to the beach this weekend, our latest track has Gustav moving in to the New Orleans area late Monday. It's really important to point out though, this track could VERY easily change over the course of the next few days. If it does jog just a little bit to the east, that puts the Alabama coastline and Florida panhandle in the bulls eye for landfall. So, your vacation plans may change on a dime this weekend...especially is mandatory evacuations are put into play.
