SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WIAT)- - Thursday morning the Lutzie 43 Foundation held its third annual golf charity event at Pursell Farms in Sylacauga.
The foundation is in honor of the late Philp Lutzenkirchen, a former Auburn football player who died in a car accident nearly four years ago.
Philip's dad Mike started the charity over three years ago in his son's honor,
"It's a celebration," said Mike Lutzenkirchen. "I never felt my heart more than today. This is a celebration of who he was. He would look down on Mary, the girls and I and be proud of what we are doing."
Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn and Auburn Athletics Director Allen Greene were among the people in attendance. "
"Philip was the first Auburn player I recruited as a coordinator," Malzahn said. "I got a special bond with him. I am so proud of Mike and taking the foundation to where it is at today, and it is an honor."
The foundation was able to raise ten scholarships on Thursday alone, each worth $4,300 for high school students looked to go to college,
