LSU/Troy Game Postponed

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU has postponed its football game
against Troy because Hurricane Gustav damaged Tiger Stadium and
battered Louisiana's capital city far worse than anticipated.
The university made the decision after having a full day to get
a handle on damage to the stadium and the community. Much of Baton
Rouge is expected to be without power into next week.
LSU athletic director Joe Alleva says Baton Rouge is in no shape
for a football game.
The game against the Trojans will be played Nov. 15.
Classes at LSU are canceled through the end of the week, with
only part of campus on power generated by the school's emergency
backup power plant.
LSU's football team met at the Tigers' on-campus training center
yesterday afternoon, then went ahead with practice. They practiced
this afternoon at their indoor facility, which also has backup
power.
The most noticeable damage at Tiger Stadium is torn awnings.
Debris littered the stands and playing field after the storm had
passed, but much of it has been cleaned up.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU vs. Troy football game, originally scheduled to be played in Tiger Stadium this Saturday night, has been postponed until November 15 in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.  November 15 was an open date on the schedule of both schools.

“The welfare of the people of Baton Rouge, the uncertain power issues facing all of us and the condition of Tiger Stadium were all factors in making this decision,” said LSU director of athletics Joe Alleva.  “We are fortunate that both schools had a common open date later in the year.  I am appreciative of the cooperation of the good people at Troy for their understanding of this situation.”

Fans are advised to keep their Game 2 tickets for the LSU-Troy game to use on November 15.

In addition, LSU soccer and volleyball events scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled.  The LSU Soccer Complex suffered considerable damage from Hurricane Gustav and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, home of the volleyball team, is being utilized as a medical special needs facility.

This week’s edition of The Les Miles Radio Show, scheduled for Wednesday night at Walk On’s Restaurant, has also been cancelled.

Alleva will be available for comment in the Lawton Room of Tiger Stadium at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
