Vandy Advances with Singles

 HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Vanderbilt hit 14 singles and defeated
Florida 7-3 victory in the first round of the Southeastern
Conference baseball tournament.
      The victory today snapped the Commodores' five-game losing
streak. That was the longest losing streak for Vanderbilt since
2003.
      Vanderbilt (38-18) had closed the regular season by being swept
in a three-game series against the Gators (34-21).
      Andrew Giobbi and Steven Liddle both went 3-for-5 with an RBI to
lead the Commodores.
      Vanderbilt put at least one man on base in each of the first six
innings in building a 6-1 lead off Florida starter Patrick Keating
(8-1).
      Vandy starter Mike Minor (6-3) picked up the victory.
      Florida was led offensively by Brandon McArthur, who went
2-for-4 with an RBI.
      Vanderbilt advances to play LSU at 5 p.m. Thursday. Florida will
take on South Carolina at 10 a.m. Thursday in a tournament
elimination game.
