Tide Clinches Spot in SEC Tournament

 ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Ross Wilson and Alex Avila each drove in five
runs and Jake Smith added two home runs to lead Alabama to a 17-13
win over Georgia on Friday in the first game of a doubleheader.
      The Crimson Tide (31-23, 15-13 Southeastern Conference) claimed
a 14-6 lead in the sixth inning when Tyler Odle hit a run-scoring
single, Wilson had a two-run triple and an RBI double by Avila, who
also had a grand slam in the second inning.
      The Bulldogs (34-18-1, 19-8-1) trimmed the deficit to 14-12 in
the eighth Bryce Massanari's three- run homer. But Alabama extended
its lead in the following inning on a three-run home run by Del
Howell.
      Miers Quigley (5-4) allowed six runs, five hits and six walks in
five innings for the Crimson Tide.
      Georgia starter Trevor Holder (7-4) gave up six runs and seven
hits in 1 2-3 innings.
