TALLADEGA, AL - Nick Saban was in a good mood despite all the hours he logged today. But instead of recruiting, Saban was shaking hands and kissing babies. Normally during this time of year Alabama's 40 Million Dollar Man is visiting high schools and getting a head start on the 2009 recruiting class, but a new NCAA rule states that coaches can not have contact with high school players during the spring period. So instead of greeting potential future stars on the gridiron, Saban is making the rounds.
Early in the day he was at Reynolds Plantation, just outside of Atlanta, taking part in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Alma Mater. He golfed today with former Crimson Tide and Oakland Raider great Kenny Stabler. When asked how he fared against the likes of Steve Spurrier, Rich Rodriguez and Tommy Tuberville, Saban wasn't too confident. "We were last after nine holes, we were exed out before it even got started."
Saban also mentioned his favorite part of the festivities were having lunch with Billy Packer and talking another sport. "We could tell basketball stories instead of football stories, so I loved it."
Saban then boarded a jet to Talladega where he spoke before over 700 fans as a part of the Crimson Caravan. A tour that was begun this year for Alabama fans and alumni.
The cost for each event is $100 per ticket, of which $50 is tax deductible. (Also, for each ticket purchased, you will receive five points in the Tide Totals points program.) Monies raised from each event are designated specifically for academic and athletic scholarships.
