MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Alabama Department of Revenue says Greenetrack owes more than $72 million in unpaid taxes, but a lawyer denies that the electronic bingo hall owes the money.

Department of Revenue spokeswoman Carla Snellgrove said she could not discuss the reasons for tax liens against Greenetrack, which were filed Thursday, because of taxpayer confidentiality laws.

The Birmingham News reported Wednesday that liens totaling more than $72 million were filed against the Greene County bingo operation for the years 2004 through 2008.

David Johnston, a lawyer for Greenetrack, said it has paid all its taxes and that the liens are "highly improper" because the track has not received a tax bill.

Johnston said they do not know what the department is claiming.
