ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) - A Marshall County teenager says he's lucky to be alive tonight.
He was rescued six hours after falling down a steep embankment.
14 year old Elijah Baker not only survived a 100 foot fall, he's standing tall.
"I'm just really blessed. I thank god 'cause I got this close to dying and I am so blessed. I'm happy to have this second chance."
Elijah and some friends were checking out the scenic views in west Etowah County Wednesday night, when he fell 100 feet down an embankment and was knocked unconscious.
The area is so remote and overgrown, not even ATV's could get through in some places.
Boaz Fire Chief Mike Sparks says, "Once we made contact with him, we sent them back with chainsaws to try to clear a path back to the trail just to get him out. So it was just a great effort by everyone involved."
Several high angle rescue teams and volunteer fire departments helped save Elijah. They used a pulley system and a basket to hoist him back up during torrential rains.
Elijah says he's thankful for the tree that left this huge scratch on his side. He said if it hadn't broken his fall, he may have tumbled another 300 feet down.
