Bessemer man identified as victim killed during reported drug deal

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - 4/16 UPDATE: 

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Jeremy Anthony Davis of Bessemer.

Sheriff's Office detectives are searching for information after a person was killed in Birmingham following an alleged drug deal, according to a release from the department. 

The Midfield Police Department called the Sheriff's Department around 8 p.m., according to the release, to investigate a report of a deceased person in a car in the parking lot. 

Deputies located a deceased male in the passenger seat of the vehicle, as the driver remained on scene. The victim was reportedly shot in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County. 

Initial information from the scene indicates that the driver of the car met with the victim to purchase marijuana, according to the release. The victim allegedly told the driver to pull his vehicle to the dead end of Salina Avenue, and when he came to a stop an unknown suspect reportedly walked up and shot the victim, according to the release.

The driver then drove to the Midfield Police Department for help. Anyone with info on the case is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
