Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford has brought health insurance to Birmingham children and now he's working on affordable prescription drugs.
On Tuesday Langford announced a new program that he hopes to partner with Cooper Green Hospital.
Langford wants to offer many medications for 25 to 40 percent off the regular price.
The Mayor says with the slow economy and tight budgets every dollar saved is important. "Some of these prescriptions are very expensive. You have a 300 dollar prescription, you can get 40 percent reduction that's 125 dollars off. I mean it just makes sense, and they can use that money for food or other things."
To make the program work the mayor says each of the city council members needs to donate 125-thousand dollars of their district funds, to Cooper Green Hospital.
