How far has America come concerning the issue of racism? It was the topic being discussed Monday night at the Birmingham Civil Right's Institute.
An early screening of the documentary entitled "The Last Lynching," hosted by Ted Koppel, was shown. It discusses race in America and focuses on the lives of three Americans and how hate and racism affected their lives, including the last lynching that occurred in Mobile in 1981.
Documentary Producer Jay LaMonica said, "That does surprise a lot of people, 1981 being after the civil rights movement that this happened. And I think you see the reaction to it in Alabama, the southern poverty law center took the clan to court, and put them out of business."
The documentary debuts October 13th on The Discovery Channel at 9pm.
