Standoff Involving Infant Ends Peacefully

Birmingham police spent hours Monday morning engaging in yet another standoff. It happened near 4th Avenue South and 42nd Street where a man apparently held his three-month-old daughter hostage.
The suspect, who was reportedly armed and possibly intoxicated, took the child from her mother after a domestic dispute in Tuscaloosa. For hours, Birmingham police blocked off the area while making negotiations with the suspect.
The unidentified male surrendered shortly after 10am and was taken into custody. The infant was retrieved from the residence unharmed.
No official charges have been filed at this time.
