When you think of female drummers, Sheila E comes to mind, but after that it gets kind of fuzzy. A local organization is out to change that!

Snare, base, para-diddle. A foreign language to some, but not to these girls who are getting a drumming education.

Latrisha Redmon is the producer of Girls Can Play Drums Too. She says, "We are focusing on the females particularly and teaching them that they can play drums too."

Girls Can Drum Too, is an inspirational two day clinic to teach girls the basics on the drum set.

Redmon says, "We can be the housewife and play the drums too, we can be the mother and play the drums too, we can do whatever we want and play the drums too, I don't know why they think that, but we're out to show them that indeed we can!"

Dearcus Curry, has been drumming for five years. She says she finds freedom behind the drums.

"You get a lot of comments, a lot of times, guys will see you playing and drop to the floor and bow and it's like you're queen, so I love it, I love it!"

9-year old Albertina McWilliams says, "I've been playing drums for two months, so I think I'm pretty good!"

So from the first timers who play for the sound, to the experts who play for the passion, girl power keeps the beat of the drum.

Briget Ros is a great drummer too.

The free clinic continues Saturday morning at nine at the Boutwell Auditorium, and is open to girls of all ages.
