A stunning development connected to the gruesome murders of five men in an Inverness apartment complex last month.  Shelby County sheriff's deputies say the killings were part of a "murder for hire scheme," involving an international drug cartel out of Mexico.

This week, U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey announced 175 arrests connected to the organization that has been made not only in the U.S., but Italy as well.

Mukasey warned the cartel has high-level members in regional hubs including Atlanta, Birmingham and Jackson, Mississippi.

"Among those indicted are three leaders of the cartel each of whom has been on the Justice Department's consolidated priority organizational target list of the world's most significant drug traffickers," said Mukasey.

Federal agents say the cartel is responsible for importing tons of cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana from central and South America into the U.S.
