Deputies say in the Lakendall Sims case the suspect carjacked a woman in his escape, and even broke into a Lipscomb woman's home overnight. He is also a known rapist, and charged with capitol murder, meaning women need to be especially careful says Kevin Smith a self defense teacher.
"In today’s society I believe it is an absolute necessity to learn a self defense art."
So we are going to teach you some, the first way to keep yourself safe is to pay attention.
"A person that is going to want to attack you wants to attack someone who's head is in the clouds that is completely unaware of the danger," says Kevin Smith.
Also lock your house and car doors: if someone does grab you, fighting back with brute force could save you.
"If a person goes and actually grabs you that's the first thing that should be on your mind is attacking the person in those vital areas," says Kevin Smith.
"Many women when being attacked would go for the groin, but it’s actually more effective if you aim for the eyes or the throat."
"A lot of times the person attacking will not actually feel the attack in the groin a better place to attack them would be the eyes and the throat stopping their vision stopping their breath," says Kevin Smith.
But if the attacker grabs you from behind its not easy to hit the face, so go for the groin. There are many ways to escape an attacker these are just a few, by finding a self defense class and studying the moves, you give yourself a better chance of escaping a harmful situation.
