20-year- old Lakendall Sims was to appear in court on Tuesday in Bessemer for a pre-trail motion in a capital murder case.
Instead, police say he made a daring escape; stealing a gun, clothes and high jacking a woman and her young child.
Yvonne Ellis is the high jacking victim. She says, "He took the gun and said slide over, I grabbed my baby. I wasn't really thinking I was shocked and scared."
Words can not describe the fear Yvonne Ellis felt Tuesday afternoon when capital murder suspect Lakendall Sims high-jacked her vehicle.
"He could have killed me and my baby, he could have done anything to my child you know what I'm saying."
It all started around 3:00 p.m. when a court bailiff was sent to bring Sims over to the courthouse.
Jefferson County Circuit court Judge, Matt Parsons says, "On the way back the prisoner was able to over come the bailiff, take his fire arm and made bailiff take pants off. Took his shirt off, he came down stair well and commandeered a car there."
The 20-year-old is mounting more charges to his laundry list.
Judge Parsons says, "He's charged with one capital murder charge of a Hispanic male in the Lipscomb area. Another was a female that her body was missing, and then the two robberies, and summoned a rape case in Birmingham."
Sims' Attorney, David Hobdy sent a strong message to his client. He says, "If Lakendall can hear, call me get in touch with me Lakendale, call me Lakendale, let's get you back to the Jefferson County Jail. Let's get this to an end.
Update: Police suspect that Sims is wearing dark-colored sweatpants, a dark shirt and a dark baseball cap he took from a home in Lipscomb on Tuesday that he forced his way into.
