Jurors considering the fate of state Rep. Sue Schmitz have asked a federal judge what they should do if they can't reach a unanimous verdict.
U.S. District Judge David Proctor said Friday he sent a message to jurors telling them that they have not deliberated for an unusual amount of time and they should continue deliberating.
Jurors are in their third day of deliberations in the north Alabama Democrat's fraud case. The question was one of two asked by jurors Thursday. The judge discussed the questions with attorneys in private, but did not make them public until Friday morning.
Schmitz is charged with using her political influence to obtain a job with a program that helps troubled teenagers and then rarely showing up for work.
