Two restored WWII Aircrafts are at the Bessemer Airport, available for the public to take a once in a lifetime trip!
John Makinson, Chief Flight Instructor for History Flight says, "One of the aircrafts was built for the United States Navy. It was the advanced fighter trainer, its the aircraft that all the advanced pilots learned their air to air combat, such as bombing. The aircraft was equipped with 40 caliber machine guns on the wings, it also had bomb racks under the wings capable of carrying a thousand pounds of bombs."
The public can go up in these aircrafts for a birds eye view. The pilot will take them on for loops and figure eights.
Makinson says, "The aircraft was built in 1945, making it 65 years old. There's no reason why it won't be able to fly another 30 or 40 years."
History Flight is a non-profit organization. In addition to maintaining and restoring WWI aircraft, History Flight sponsors WWII MIA search missions as outlined in the Mission Statement attached. A search team recently returned from a month-long operation in Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, where they located 11 grave sites and the remains of over 65 U.S. Solders.
Historic flights will take off all weekend for the public at the Bessemer Airport. Flights are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
