Huntsville Man Sentenced to Death for Killing Police Officer in 2005

A man convicted of killing a Huntsville police officer in 2005 has been sentenced to death.
Madison County Circuit Judge Karen Hall handed down the sentence for 34-year-old Benito Albarran of Huntsville Wednesday for the shooting death of Officer Daniel Golden.
In June, a jury voted 10-2 to recommend the death penalty for Albarran, whom authorities said was as an illegal immigrant.
He was convicted of shooting Golden at point-blank range when Golden responded to a domestic violence call from Albarran's wife.
Hall agreed with prosecutors that the murder was cruel and unmerciful. Golden was wounded and lying on the ground begging for his life when Albarran shot him in the head.
Albarran's lawyers say the sentence will automatically be appealed.
