"I hate to say it but it's like a little vacation for us."
Robin Foss is one of the lucky ones; enjoying a little time at her home away from home. Fate has brought the Huntsville native back after relocating to Louisiana.
"Katrina is first and foremost on their minds, so just talking to them and hearing how bad it was we decided since we had family, we were fortunate enough to be able to come visit that we decided to leave early so we came on Friday.”
Foss admits she's lucky. Her daughter still lives in Hoover so she's taking advantage of this opportunity.
"My daughter is recently engaged so we're going to meet her future in laws so we're going to have dinner"
But most of the people forced to evacuate from Louisiana weren't as fortunate and many are struggling just to find a place to stay tonight.
Kimberly Lassai says she was shuffled around to various locations prior to leaving Louisiana and then spent 13 hours riding to Birmingham only to have no place to stay.
“The first shelter said they couldn't take us so they brought us to this shelter. This shelter
couldn’t take us so they took us to another shelter where they said to bring us back here."
That being said, Lassai says she’s still hoping for the best.
“I'm not mad at Alabama because they weren’t prepared for us. They're doing all they can do.”
