"This is a rally to protest proposed cuts by BJCTA and to ask the city council to take a look at the people who use this service.”
Birmingham citizens are already protesting max transit and today Mayor Larry Langford joined them.
"Help us to understand, but by the same token, you're going to have to comply with what the law says too." The city of Birmingham is a major contributor to the system, being the largest city that max serves. So far the city has pledged to up the ante up an additional seven million dollars to help out the failing transit system But MAX contends that even with the additional money, service cuts amounting to nearly 150 thousand hours would still be needed to balance its budget.
"They can't just cut it without getting that authorization from the people buying into it. Langford says ultimately, whatever the transit system does it must be approved by all interested parties and that decision will affect thousands of people.
One rider summed it up by saying, "The people who will not be able to get to their jobs or appointments with their doctors."
