Disputed Jacksonville Tree Downed by Wind, Rain

An old pecan tree at the center of a legal battle between a Jacksonville resident and Alabama Power has been downed by wind and rain.

The tree came down Monday night, resting on part of the front porch of Barbara Wilson. She had chained herself to it last year in an effort to save it. A judge ruled in March that the utility could trim the tree, but not cut it down.

Wilson says the power company cut the limbs on the street side, but left the side by her house heavy with limbs. The tree hit a power line when it fell, and electricity in the area had to be cut off to make repairs.
