Christmas is coming a little early this year at a farm in rural Walker County. "Hopefully get people to bringing back to those down home roots and the importance of food, family, friends, faith," said Edie Hand, noted cookbook author and television personality. She's filming a musical television special that will bring together many of her musical friends.
"It's a hard time of year because you've lost people in your life that you've loved but you have those memories and that's what we're trying to incorporate is the traditional family values and how important it really is to have that in your lives," said Karen Waldron, Executive Producer of the project.
The production is actually being filmed just outside Dora, at the Hollis Farm, where some of Nashville's most noted musicians are helping Edie Hand begin a new holiday tradition. "Buddy and I recorded Older Women make better lovers and in a new york minute and you know all the records we had and I guess that's kinda how I got to meet Edie," said singing legend Ronnie McDowell.
Part of the show will feature excerpts from Hand’s book, "The Last Christmas Ride," in memory of her three brothers. "David, Terry and Phillip, and one of our favorite Christmas things to do was to ride our horses at dawn and sing Christmas carols," Hand said. Part of the proceeds from her book will benefit Children's Hospital of Alabama and the Children's Miracle Network.
Some of the stars that will appear in the special include legends like Charlie Daniels and rising stars like Mike Farris.
