Lake View Elementary School means no more long morning commutes to Brookwood or Vance for more than 550 kindergarten through 5th graders in eastern Tuscaloosa County. The school has been called safe, modern, and beautiful with a steel frame and built-in fire suppression system.

However, the school is still not connected to a sewer.

Tuscaloosa County Schools spokesperson John Merrill said the lines are in place to pump away waste, but they are not open. "We're having to pump the waste out of here every day and take it to a dumping site," said John Merrill.

Merrill said transporting and processing the waste costs approximately $400 a day. Meanwhile,  Lake View Mayor Fred Pugh said they can't open the line because of ongoing litigation with nearby Woodstock.

In an emailed statement an attorney for Lake View said the Lake View Public Sewer Corporation has been blocked from operating the line on property at the site Woodstock claims to have annexed.

"I'm sure it will be resolved and my hopes and wishes are the sooner the better," said Fred Pugh.
