The northern beltline is a little closer to becoming a reality in north Jefferson County.  At a metropolitan planning organization meeting Wednesday afternoon, representatives from the Birmingham Regional Planning Commission gave an update on the status of the Birmingham interstate bypass including large intersections in Hueytown, Graysville and Clay.

Clay Mayor Dr. Charles Hart said, "Oh, it'd be great for Clay because the economic development.  Everybody wants, all the developers, shopping centers want to around an interchange."

Mary Grace Lewandowski of the Birmingham Regional Planning Commission said, “We wanted to be able to help with their current growth and then also any future growth that may occur once the northern beltline comes through."

There was not an update from the Alabama Department of Transportation at the meeting.  They will give their update on September 10th.
