State troopers were at the Talladega Super Speedway Thursday morning taking their turns around the track. But, they weren't there for the races. These troopers were learning to avoid accidents, negotiate curves, and keep control at all times during a high-speed chase.
And although this is just practice, they say the track contains several of the dangerous elements involved in real pursuits.
"Versus taking the curves, actually slowing down, stopping, it's very realistic. The only thing we don't have is the actual public itself," said Trooper Dewayne Hosea.
Although a pursuit in which the suspect is caught is always great, the troopers say safety always comes first. If they believe the public is in danger, they will call-off the pursuit.
