Mercedes-Benz to Cut Production at Vance Plant

Mercedes-Benz is reducing production of vehicles made in Alabama.

Plant spokeswoman Felyicia Jerald said sales trends and the overall economy prompted the production cuts.

Mercedes will cancel the night shift on six days later in the year and will lengthen Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday closings.

The company wouldn't specify how many fewer vehicles would be produced under the cutbacks.

Jerald said employees will be able to take vacation during the shutdowns. She said that if they don't have vacation time left or need to work they will have other options, but did not elaborate.

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama earlier this week announced temporary production cuts at its Lincoln plant.
