"I tried to come home for lunch and Police, SWAT, the whole nine were out here."

The police standoff kept the residents of the Royal Hills apartment complex from entering or exiting their homes for more than four hours.

Hoping to wait it out, Mark Stonewall pulled up to the adjacent property and ended up with a front row seat.

"They were posted up at the corner of this building and at this mailbox gazebo thing here. They just had their guns pointed up toward this parking lot here.”

That's where police say a man had locked himself inside a white pickup; threatening to harm himself or his adult daughter

Tuscaloosa Chief of Police Ken Swindle said, "He had some weapons in the car. It started about ten-thirty this morning and very fortunately we were able to talk to him until about two-thirty and he put the guns out.”

No one was harmed but it did make for a long and stressful move in day.

"When we arrived there was a blockade and we were not allowed to enter the property."

Kim Nicholas was helping her daughter move in today, but says she's confident her daughter will be safe.

And long time residents of royal hill said the complex is normally quiet and say the situation could have been a lot worse.

"I'm glad that there wasn't any violence and nobody was hurt, you know. Things happen."
