Cullman County Sheriff Tyler Roden says 19-year old Matthew Mork is accused of molesting an 11 year old relative. Mork is now charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child and one count of sodomy. "It was alleged that the abuse had been occurring in a two to four year period," said Sheriff Roden.

The sheriff says the investigation was completed with help from a Marine military police agent while Mork was in boot camp at Paris Island, SC. "Once we got our hands on a warrant we then worked with the authorities and the military up there and had him extradited back to Cullman county," Roden said.

Recruiters at the local armed forces career center say all the branches of the military have extensive criminal background checks, but these charges were brought after, the suspect joined the marine corps, now people in Cullman say they're glad he was caught before he graduated from boot camp.

"The military is supposed to be standing up for us representing us in all different areas and that's not what I consider I want to be represented by," Nancy Roberson said. Leslie Dye added, "We wouldn't be really expecting but then again you can't really expect anything out of people now."

The sheriff says the victim is safe with family and is undergoing counseling.
