Distance Learning Coming to All Alabama High Schools

All Alabama high schools will soon be outfitted with distance learning technology that makes classes available to students from one end of the state to the other.

All 371 Alabama high schools will be involved in the ACCESS Distance Learning program starting in the 2009-10 school year. That's a year earlier than planned.

State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton and Gov. Bob Riley made the announcement Tuesday and said Alabama will be the first state to have such a program statewide.

The program allows students to take classes online and through video-conferencing.

More students will have access to advanced placement and other courses that might not be offered at their schools.
