Mississippi Man Tasered in South Alabama Dies in Pond

A Meridian, Mississippi, man died over the 4th of July weekend in a south Alabama pond after police officers shocked him with a Taser.
Brewton Police said officers chased 36-year-old Arthur James Bennett after he refused to stop for a DUI checkpoint. Police Chief Monte McGougin said Bennett died just after midnight Friday.
McGougin said Bennett refused to surrender when officers cornered him and he was Tasered. But he said Bennett ran into nearby woods, jumped into a pond and drowned.
Police said Bennett had been wanted on multiple warrants.
The case was turned over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
