A fortune 500 company is teaming up with the city of birmingham to help protect families with free life insurance. Parents with children under 18 signed up Saturday at Boutwell Auditorium. There were more than 200 people scheduled to apply, which only involves a blood and urine test.
The 10 year policy provides $50,000 of coverage for an eligible parent or legal guardian.
One recipient says the program has given her some peace of mind: "It relieves me to know that if anything happens with the economy the way it is and the way the world is going that if something happens to me that my child will be able to go to school, and that's like a big relief off of me," said Erica Spencer, who participated in the LifeBridge MassMutual Free Life Insurance Program.
The program is still open for people who missed Saturday's application event; you can call Mayor Larry Langford's office at 254-2368 or you can visit MassMutual’s website, www.cornerstoneal.com.
