People in Bibb County were alarmed to hear that a law enforcement officer was charged with rape. "Well basically I was shocked more than anything because I grew up around him and I've known him for a while but I never would have thought he would have done anything like that," Yolanda Mitchell said.
Sheriff Keith Hannah says when the accusations surfaced Tuesday morning, he immediately called in an outside agency to investigate. "We immediately notified the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, we requested them to come in and do a special inquiry, they did," Hannah said.
ABI agents arrested the suspect, Terrell Morrow of Centreville, after 5 p.m. yesterday. He's charged with second degree rape, also known as statutory rape, of a 15-year old girl.
Sheriff Hannah says the deputy has been fired from his position with the department, and he will not be granted an appeal to get his job back.
"Well the way I look at it, they're doing their job, that's all they can do," Mitchell added.
Morrow had reportedly been a deputy in Bibb County for at least three years. Sheriff Hannah says this is the first time one of his deputies has been charged with anything like this.
