Alabama's entry in the 20th annual National Geography Bee in Washington was the runner-up in Wednesday's competition. 13-year-old Hunter Bledsoe, an 8th grader at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, earned a $15,000 scholarship.
11-year-old Akshay Rajagopal of Lincoln, Nebraska, was the winner. He knew that Cochabamba was in Bolivia -- and took the top prize. He wins a $25,000 scholarship.
Cochabamba or a conurbation means a large, densely-populated urban area.
