Glen Frey is a medical rarity.  The Hoover man is part of the 1% of breast cancer cases in men.  And his battle to beat cancer is a fight that all began at the urging of his wife.  But while his form is rare, his fight is real.

This is the way Glen Frey begins most everyday, getting radiation treatment for cancer.

"The biopsy came back and showed some cancer," said Frey.

But the road here began with a nagging pain in his chest and the constant urging from Frey's wife to get it checked out.

"So, I guess over the weekend, a span of three or four days, it went from, I felt like I was going to satisfy my wife to go to the doctor and get checked out.  I went from that to being diagnosed with cancer.  There were spots that came back and that started the whole ball rolling," said Frey.

The ball that got rolling was treatment for cancer, specifically, male breast cancer.

"I cannot imagine how many women I have treated over the years with breast cancer.  But, I can count on my hand the number of men that I have treated," said Dr. Ira Gore.

Stunned by the diagnosis and that particular form of cancer, Frey immediately turned his attention to beating it.

"Everything was moving at such a rapid pace that it didn't give you a whole lot of time to stop, think and analyze," said Frey.

And crediting a positive attitude and few changes in lifestyle, Frey is on his well on his way to becoming a success story.

"Mr. Frey really has a good prognosis.  He's been thorough quite a lot and shown a lot of courage in dealing with his cancer," said Dr. Gore.

And Frey says if there is a lesson here it is to listen to the messages your body is sending and take the urgings of others seriously.

"I would say get your routine physicals, pay attention to what your body is doing, telling you.  People ask me how ya doing, I say I'm feeling great," said Frey.
