Tuscaloosa county resident Janet Wilson says the cost for her cholesterol medicine can add up, especially because she's not insured.  “The prescription was going to be close to $190, and I ended up paying less than $60 for it."
Wilson saved over a hundred bucks thanks to the Tuscaloosa County prescription drug discount card.  It’s a free program that has already saved users over half a million dollars since it began in 2005.
The card isn't insurance, but still covers about a 25% discount per prescription.
"It's no cost to the taxpayer’s money and it just applies to any of them can take advantage of it," says Tuscaloosa County Commissioner Don Wallace.
Using the card will not only give you a good deal on prescriptions, but it will also give you options, because it can be used at pharmacies nationwide.
“Anyone can get the card, it's free, there's no application , you just simply have to get the card and present it at your pharmacy, most all pharmacies accept it," adds Wallace.
Even if you do have prescription drug coverage, you can still use the card to see if it provides you a better discount than you plan would.
If you are interested in getting one of those free prescription drug cards in Tuscaloosa, you can head to the County Courthouse, or any of the drivers license annex offices to pick one up.
