It happened Tuesday night at the Talladega municipal sports complex.

Talladega's mayor, Brian York, was there watching his son play ball when he soon found himself tangled-up between two angry women!

Now, the rumors of him being part of the rumble are spreading through the community... with folks quickly forming opinions of the ordeal.

"He did the right thing, he stepped in and tried to break it up, and it just went the wrong way I guess." said Ben Ledbetter.

Fights break out on a regular basis at sports complexes across the country, but because this one happened in Talladega, mayor Brian York declined an on-camera interview.

He tells CBS 42 that he believes it would bring negative publicity to the city.

But, if you ask those who witnessed the altercation, they'll tell you, the mayor did nothing to be ashamed of, he was simply trying to break up a fight.

"I seen him throw his arms up and tell them he was trying to help them out, and the next thing you know, we see a lady just reach up and scratch his face up." said fight eyewitness Chase Simpson.

York now has huge bloody claw marks on his face around his mouth and nose from the fracas.. and, is still sore from where someone clubbed him in the back of his head with their fist and knocked him down.

Police reports were filed, however, no arrests have been made so far.
