Brandee Lee Whitaker, who in July 2005 allegedly drove her car into the Cahaba River with her two young children in the backseat, was found dead Tuesday in Macon, Georgia.
Leon Jones, Chief Coroner of Bibb County, Georgia, tells CBS 42 News that Whitaker was found dead by her boyfriend at her home. An autopsy is being performed to confirm the cause of death, but the preliminary investigation points to an overdose.
Her children, five-year-old Ashlyn Skinner and 18-month-old Bryson Skinner, died on July 16, 2005 when Whitaker apparently drove her BMW into the Cahaba River near the Shelby/Jefferson County line. Whitaker had been indicted on manslaughter charges, though a trial had not yet been scheduled.
