A nationally recognized Butts and Bones barbecue competition team is bringing its show to Hartselle to stay.
Next month, Gary Travis and Lindanne Phillips will open Hickory Street Station Restaurant Art Gallery and Studio in the north Alabama city.
The third member of the competition crew is Travis' daughter, Gillian Cramer. She will be the head chef and kitchen manager. A graduate of the Culinard Culinary School in Birmingham, she's coming to Hartselle from the Marriott in Mobile where she worked as a chef.
Cramer has appeared three times on the Food Network and won the national rib championship in 2002.
The restaurant and art gallery are opening in the old railroad station building near Railroad and Hickory streets. Travis says the restaurant's specialty will be baby back ribs and the special rubbing sauce the owners have perfected in ten years of competing at barbecue events across the South.
Besides the national award in 2002, Travis' rib recipe has four times been crowned grand champion at competitions.
